TikTok Link in Bio Without 1,000 Followers: App Guide

, 8 min read

Your first videos are getting views. People ask "what's the app called?" in the comments. And your profile has nothing to tap. This guide covers what TikTok's own rule says today, what to do while you can't add a link, and what to put in the link once you can.

The current rule, from TikTok's own help center

Third-party guides disagree. Some say any Business account gets a link right away. Some say Business accounts still need 1,000 followers. One even claims the limit was dropped for everyone.

TikTok's support FAQ splits it into two cases:

  • A general (personal) account can add a website link to its profile once it has at least 1,000 followers.
  • A Verified Business Account can add a website link to its profile. TikTok says it may ask you to verify the account to keep access to Verified Business Account features.

So switching to Business on its own is not the key. The verified business status is. That explains the contradicting guides: some people switch, see the Website field, and write "Business unlocks it", while others switch, see nothing, and write "it doesn't work". Guides also mention a few other conditions: the account holder usually has to be 18 or older, the field is set in the mobile app rather than on desktop, and availability can vary by region (Shopify, Replug).

Check your own account in 30 seconds

  1. Open the TikTok app, go to Profile, tap Edit profile.
  2. Look for a Website field under Bio.
  3. If it's there, add your link. If not, check Settings and privacy, then Account, to see whether you are on a Business account and whether TikTok is offering business verification.

If you see no Website field and no verification option, you're in the "can't add link to TikTok bio" group for now. Skip ahead to the fallback section.

The music trade-off for app makers

Business accounts can only use TikTok's Commercial Music Library, not the full catalog of trending sounds. For a promotional app account that's usually the right setting anyway: your posts are promoting your product, and commercial use of trending tracks is where the rights problems are. If your plan depends on riding trending sounds, keep that in mind before switching.

Option A: you can add a link. Use one smart link

A TikTok bio holds one website link. Your viewers are split between iPhone and Android. Putting only the App Store URL in the bio sends every Android viewer to a page they can't use.

The fix is one URL on your own domain that checks the device and redirects:

  • iPhone and iPad go to your App Store page.
  • Android goes to your Google Play page.
  • Anything else (desktop) goes to your website.

You can do this with a link-in-bio service that has device routing, or with a tiny page on your own domain. Here's a complete version you can drop at something like yourapp.com/get:

<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
  <meta charset="utf-8">
  <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
  <title>Get the app</title>
  <script>
    var ua = navigator.userAgent || "";
    var ios = /iPhone|iPad|iPod/i.test(ua) ||
      (navigator.platform === "MacIntel" && navigator.maxTouchPoints > 1);
    var android = /Android/i.test(ua);

    var APP_STORE = "https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id123456789?pt=123456&ct=tiktok-bio&mt=8";
    var PLAY = "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.app" +
      "&referrer=utm_source%3Dtiktok%26utm_medium%3Dbio%26utm_campaign%3Dtiktok-bio";
    var WEB = "https://example.com";

    window.location.replace(ios ? APP_STORE : android ? PLAY : WEB);
  </script>
</head>
<body>
  <p><a href="https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id123456789">App Store</a> ·
     <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.example.app">Google Play</a></p>
</body>
</html>

Replace the App Store id, the pt value, the Play package name and the fallback site. The plain links in the body are there for the rare in-app browser that blocks the redirect: the viewer still sees two buttons instead of a blank page.

The extra parameters on each store URL are what make the link measurable, which is the part most guides on how to add an App Store link to a TikTok bio skip.

Option B: you can't add a link yet. Make the store search do the work

If the Website field isn't there, you can still get installs. You just have to make the search impossible to get wrong.

Write the bio for search, not for a URL

Typing a URL from a bio is clumsy, so most people won't. Searching a store is easy if they know the exact words. Give them those words:

PlantPal: AI plant care 🌱
Search "PlantPal plant care" on App Store & Google Play
Free to try. New tip every day.

Pick a search phrase that actually returns your app first. Test it yourself in both stores, on a phone where you're not logged in to your developer account, before you put it in the bio. If your app name is generic, add a second word that only you rank for.

Repeat it on the video and in the comments

Most viewers never open your profile. Put the same phrase where they already are:

  • On-screen text in the last two to three seconds: Search "PlantPal plant care" on the App Store.
  • A comment from your account with the same line, pinned to the top of the video.
  • In replies, when someone asks for the app's name, answer with the exact search phrase.

Keep the wording identical everywhere. Every variation is a chance for someone to search the wrong thing and land on a competitor.

How to see whether TikTok is actually driving installs

Views are not installs. Both stores have free, built-in ways to separate TikTok traffic from everything else.

App Store: campaign links

In App Store Connect, open Analytics, then Acquisition, then Campaigns, and generate a campaign link (Apple docs). Apple's link carries a provider token (pt, the same for your whole developer account) and a campaign token (ct, which you set per campaign, for example tiktok-bio).

Two things to know before you panic about empty reports. Apple credits a first-time download if it happens within 24 hours of the click, and campaign data only shows once at least five individual users have downloaded through it. On a new account it can take a while to cross that line.

Google Play: UTM tags via the referrer

Add a referrer parameter with URL-encoded UTM values to your Play link, as in the code above. Play Console's acquisition reporting can then break store listing traffic down by UTM source and campaign (Google Play help). The UTM source dimension only appears when traffic source is filtered to ads and referrals, so filter first.

When there's no link at all

Without a clickable link, attribution is fuzzier. Watch two things in each store's console: product page views and downloads that come from App Store or Play search. If those rise on the days your videos get views, and stay flat on quiet days, TikTok is likely the cause. A unique search phrase helps here too, since that's a term people didn't search before you put it on screen.

If the views are there and installs aren't moving, the problem is usually the video, not the link. Views but no downloads covers the usual reasons, and the week-one checklist covers what a brand new account should set up before judging any of it.

Which option should you use?

  • If your account already shows a Website field, add the smart link today, with campaign tokens on both store URLs.
  • If it doesn't, check whether TikTok offers business verification for your account. If it does and you're fine with the Commercial Music Library, verify.
  • Either way, put the exact store search phrase in the bio, on screen and in a pinned comment. You need it under 1,000 followers, and it still helps after, because plenty of viewers will never tap through to your profile.

The link only converts if people keep watching long enough to want the app. That part comes down to posting consistently and testing formats over a week, not one post at a time. If making those posts is the bottleneck, TikTok marketing for apps explains how Social Studio plans a calendar from your product and makes each post for you to review before it goes out.

Questions

Can a TikTok Business account add a bio link with under 1,000 followers?

According to TikTok's help center, general accounts need 1,000 followers, while Verified Business Accounts can add a website link. Switching to Business without verification may not show the Website field.

Why can't I add a link to my TikTok bio?

Usually because the account has under 1,000 followers and isn't a Verified Business Account. Age (18+), using the mobile app rather than desktop, and regional availability can also hide the Website field.

Should I put the App Store or Google Play link in my TikTok bio?

Neither on its own. Use one link on your own domain that sends iPhone users to the App Store, Android users to Google Play and everyone else to your website.

How do I know if installs came from TikTok?

Use an App Store Connect campaign link (ct token) and a Google Play link with UTM values in the referrer parameter, then check each store's acquisition reports.

Post every day without filming every day

Social Studio plans the ideas, makes the posts with music, voiceover and captions, and publishes them to your own TikTok after you approve each one.
